Children’s Book Illustration

During the Spring24’ semester I challenged myself in taking a childrens illustration class with Joe Kulka. Generally my style is not suitable for childrens illustration so I took it as a challenge.
Because we were tasked to write and illustrate our own childrensbook I chose to rewrite the story of how I found my cat Bea.
I wanted to keep the narrative simple and upbeat, for a younger audiance while also having a positive underlying story of adoption and found family.

In the beginning stages we focused on character turnarounds and a basic layour for our book. Starting out with flat, black and white rough illustrations.

This is the cover art I decided to go with. This coloring style was the goal on all the colored full art pages. I wanted a textured, airbrushy, style that was somewhat reminicent on what I had seen in other children’s books.
Completed Book
Some pages remain in black and white, uncolored. This is due to the class requirements however I would like to finish it in the future (as well as rewriting some narrative aspects)
